Is Internet Marketing Hard?

I get asked so many questions by people who are interested in internet marketing that after a while they kind of just get repeated. One of the questions that pops up on a regular basis is the one listed in the title.

People are concerned about whether internet marketing is hard or whether it’s easy. Can anyone do it? What they really want to know is, “Can I do it?” They wait in eager anticipation to hear me tell them exactly what they want to hear. Most of them are very disappointed when I give my almost universal reply to questions.

“It depends.”

The answer doesn’t satisfy them. It fills some with dread. It makes others even more curious. The truth is that everything in internet marketing depends on a collection of variables that can’t be easily worked into an exact formula.

Here is just a short list of some of those variables:

How much do you know?
How much time can you invest?
How much money can you invest?
How quickly do you learn?
How much energy do you have?
How bold are you?
How good are you at technical things?
How good are you at writing?
How computer literate are you?
Do you have money to cover your living expenses?
Do you have $5,000 + to invest in this business?
Are you a trusting person?
Are you a trustworthy person?
Do you have integrity?
Do you get angry easily?
Can you manage money?
Are you logical?
Are you emotional?
Do you know much about sales?
Do you know much about marketing?
Do you know much about psychology?
Can you create computer programs?
Can you create videos?
Can you create audio files (mp3s)?
Do you know how to create a web page?
Do you work well with people?

I could go on and on but hopefully you begin to get the idea. Most people only look at how much money they can make and they want a short formula for achieving that goal. They want to be told that they can jump right in, spend very little money, and make a lot of money with very little work.

If it worked that way, everyone in the world would be rich. Your common sense ought to tell you that it isn’t that easy. With the right combination of skills, knowledge, systems, tools, cash, time, etc. just about anyone can find a way to make money online. How much money, how quickly, varies. In other words, it depends.
