Do you REALLY want it?

I often hear people say that they want to be internet marketers. They want to make money. They want the internet lifestyle. They want to be wealthy. I believe each one of them is sincere.

Let’s examine the word want for a second, though. Wanting something can be many things. Want can be broken down into two very distinct categories: Wish and Desire.

When we talk we often miscommunication our true meaning. For instance the following three statements are very close:

1. I want to be an internet marketer.
2. I wish to be an internet marketer.
3. I desire to be an internet marketer.

Sentence number one can effectively cover sentences two and three. Sentence two can cover sentence one. Sentence three can cover sentence one. However, sentence two and sentence three can’t cover each other.

If I see something and I wish for it I am thinking that I would be happier if I had it. If I see something and I desire it I have moved beyond mere wishing and have taken an action to attain that thing.

When folks tell me they want something I almost automatically ask them if they wish it or desire it. Only wishing for something is a trap. It provides you the feedback that will make you think you’re aiming toward success while robbing you blind.

Those who desire a thing, who truly desire it, will take action to attain it. Action is the fine line that separates those who succeed from those who fail. If you don’t see success in your ventures you might want to reevaluate whether you’re wishing or whether you’re desiring and taking action.
