Before Walking

The question one must ask themselves is, “Do I really want to succeed?”

Wishing, wanting and desiring will never by themselves bring about any lasting change in your life. All of us wish we were wealthy. Not all of us are wealthy. This is a major disconnect between what is in our head and what is our lifestyle reality.

The human brain is ingeniously divided into two separate hemispheres. The Left side of the brain is logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective and looks at parts. The right side of the brain is random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing, subjective and looks at wholes. To simplify the left brain is logical and the right brain is creative. Men and women tend to primarily use one side or the other. Men lean to the left/logical brain where women lean to the right/creative brain.

The brain is further divided in its design. Different parts of the brain handle different functions. The reaction, emotion and reasoning sections of the brain must work in concert to determine our courses of action.

Let’s say that you’re walking though your house and that pesky spouse of yours jumps out and yells, “BOO”. Your reaction would be to protect yourself from and immediately perceived danger. Once you leapt back, having protected yourself, you might experience the emotion of fear or anger or both. But before you respond you reason that it was only done in fun and not worth fighting over so you smile and enjoy the joke.

Your full brain has been engaged and a nervous system concert has been played. The music of your mind has determined who you are and has shared that music (whether good or bad) with the other person.

It is this interplay with others that causes social interaction. Minds working out their purpose and desire in life and affecting (or infecting) other minds. Like ripples in the ocean the thoughts and actions of one person spread out intersecting with the thoughts and actions of all others until they dissipate or combine to create a wave.

Just knowing this does nothing. When we apply this to becoming wealthy it is everything. By knowing how our brain works and how the brains of others work we can address anything that comes to mind.

A wish, want, or desire is the result of some stimulus. It can be reactive but is most likely emotional. In most folks it stops at the emotional realm. Those who are successful pass the feeling on to the rational mind so that a course of action can be chosen and enacted.

Without a very strong desire or a very good rational reason to continue many people will simply stop with the dream or wish of wealth. They may “reason” that they just aren’t the kind of person that can achieve wealth. They may perceive a threat to their status quo and not wish to “rock the boat”. The reality is that without the strong drive to attain wealth one simply cannot achieve the success of wealth.
