If you’ve ever tried viewing your web pages stored on your local computer you may have run into the dreaded restriction bar. This is the information toolbar that pops up warning you about restricted material. It looks like a big deal but it really isn’t. You don’t have hidden scripts in your web page or anything like that most likely.

This is a simple fix but not everyone knows about it. A single line of html code will cause this bar to go away and allow you to view your sites with no further annoyance.

For those of you who like the details you’ll find a high quality article here:
Mark of the Web

Pretty much here’s the line you have to insert:
< !-- saved from url=(0023)http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com/ -- >

I inserted a blank space after the < and before the > so be sure to remove them when you insert this into your html.

The (0023) has to be a number equal to the characters in your URL link.

Video Insertion Test :)

July 31st, 2008

I know, I should have entered the 21st century long ago but I’m just now testing video insertion into blog posts using YouTube. At least old dogs do learn new tricks sometimes…or they try to.

Is Internet Marketing Hard?

July 17th, 2008

I get asked so many questions by people who are interested in internet marketing that after a while they kind of just get repeated. One of the questions that pops up on a regular basis is the one listed in the title.

People are concerned about whether internet marketing is hard or whether it’s easy. Can anyone do it? What they really want to know is, “Can I do it?” They wait in eager anticipation to hear me tell them exactly what they want to hear. Most of them are very disappointed when I give my almost universal reply to questions.

“It depends.”

The answer doesn’t satisfy them. It fills some with dread. It makes others even more curious. The truth is that everything in internet marketing depends on a collection of variables that can’t be easily worked into an exact formula.

Here is just a short list of some of those variables:

How much do you know?
How much time can you invest?
How much money can you invest?
How quickly do you learn?
How much energy do you have?
How bold are you?
How good are you at technical things?
How good are you at writing?
How computer literate are you?
Do you have money to cover your living expenses?
Do you have $5,000 + to invest in this business?
Are you a trusting person?
Are you a trustworthy person?
Do you have integrity?
Do you get angry easily?
Can you manage money?
Are you logical?
Are you emotional?
Do you know much about sales?
Do you know much about marketing?
Do you know much about psychology?
Can you create computer programs?
Can you create videos?
Can you create audio files (mp3s)?
Do you know how to create a web page?
Do you work well with people?

I could go on and on but hopefully you begin to get the idea. Most people only look at how much money they can make and they want a short formula for achieving that goal. They want to be told that they can jump right in, spend very little money, and make a lot of money with very little work.

If it worked that way, everyone in the world would be rich. Your common sense ought to tell you that it isn’t that easy. With the right combination of skills, knowledge, systems, tools, cash, time, etc. just about anyone can find a way to make money online. How much money, how quickly, varies. In other words, it depends. ;)

Well, the Traffic Secrets 2.0 feeding frenzy is all over now.

Everyone’s been waiting for Traffic Secrets 2.0 with eager anticipation. Is it worth it? Probably. I have seem what it offers to teach and frankly if it only does half of what it claims it can do it will make a lot of people rich.

John Reese dropped the price significantly from his original product pricing. The new product is discounted 60% off the old price to allow more people to get the information. Still it’s going to cost you more than an evening out. At $397 it will still be more than most people want to dish out.

I was impressed enough with what John offered that I spent the money within minutes of the site being open.

That’s another thing. It was supposed to open at noon sharp. Noon came. I refreshed the page and wham, a little message in red at the top saying, oops our bad, not enough servers, be back in an hour with more server capacity. Bummed out, I waited the hour…then 10 more minutes…then a few more minutes. I was finally rewarded with the opportunity to shell out my hard earned cash!

I’m still awaiting notification from UPS that my product has been shipped. Who knows how quickly that will come if everyone in the world tried to buy it yesterday!!!

Now I get to wait for UPS email…then the UPS truck…then the learning curve…

Ain’t life grand? :)

Make Money With No Money

July 14th, 2008

To succeed at internet marketing you have to have a lot of tools, a lot of money, know a lot of things, and have great connections with the successful marketers.

Are you one of the people that believes that statement? Good, then you’re the person I’m writing this post for. The statement above is completely wrong! It’s very easy to make money online whether you have a ton of tools, tons of cash, whether you know a lot, or whether you know anyone successful.

Flat Broke Marketing is a new monthly membership site that teaches you how to make the money to pay for the membership BEFORE they’ll accept your money. Now, if you’ve already got enough money that’s cool. It’s not much. Only 20 bucks a month.

With gas prices climbing like a volcano that’s about to erupt and the cost of living increasing around the world people NEED to know how to make extra money online.

If you would like to learn how to make money online without having to spend money online you should check this site out.

One of the best things you can do whenever you’re marketing a product or service online is to collect the contact information from all your site visitors. This will allow you to stay in touch with your visitors.

It’s very easy to lose track of people and it’s easy for people to lose track of you. Think about how many eb sites you visit each day. Can you remember all the sites you visited and return to them easily? So, you can see why this is important to do.

The tool we use for something like this is called an autoresponder. You may see autoresponders listed in the control panel of your site but that’s not the same thing. It’s very limited. What you need is an autoresponder service. If you don’t have one you can get a 30 day trial version of the best one here. Free 30 Day Autoresponder

The above example is a method to use in a blog entry that will allow you to collect contact information. To obtain this free tool visit http://www.wordpressautoresponder.com/.

This is one post you won’t want to miss. John finally took off the gloves and let the grumblikins on the net have his one two punch. He’s not holding anything back this time. He tells it exactly like it is. Am I hyping this up? Is this piquing your curiosity? Would you like to know why you need to be defended as an internet marketer?

Go see for yourself.

Wake Up Call: Web 2.0 Wouldn’t Exist Without Internet Marketers

Well, eBay has done it again. They’ve shot themselves in the foot and alienated good selling partners. Effective March 31, 2008 eBay will ban all digital deliver sales worldwide. To learn more you can click this link: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200803.shtml#2008-03-24125416

There are ways around this problem, though. The primary way is to burn the digital product onto a CD and then mail the CD to the winner of the auction. This adds some cost and initially I think you’ll find that sales of digital products will drop. Give yourself a little time, though and eBay users will adjust to the new system.

People adjust to things they can’t control much too easily. Since there’s no serious competitor to eBay’s auction service everyone will grumble for a while and then move on. So how can you benefit from this scenario?

By planning on delivering digital products via CD within the next month or so and building your new eBay business!

Think of it this way… Thousands of digital delivery products just disappeared from eBay. There is a huge marketing hole on eBay starting April 1st. By placing auctions for digital products delivered via CD you’ll be positioning yourself as one of the premiere digital products vendors!

Yes, what eBay has done is bad. Yes, in the future they’re going to keep slapping people around and alienating them. Sooner or later, though some big player is going to see the opportunity and eBay will be put out of business by a new auction service that is more interested in making real money than by creating new ways to lose money.

In the mean time real marketers are like cows. When they eat all the grass in one meadow they simply move on to greener grass. We sell where we can make money until we can’t make enough money in that area any longer. The we move to a new area where we can make more money. It’s just the way things work.

Mouthy Marketers

February 19th, 2008

Wow, I’ve just gotten another one of those mouthy emails. You know the kind. They drone on and on about everything under the sun without getting to the point. This one was a doozie. I copied just the message part and pasted it into Word and it came to 3,028 words. Now if you estimate a single double spaced page being 300 words we’re talking about a 10 page email!

I’m a copywriter and I’ve heard all the arguments about short copy vs. long copy. I’m pretty sure these folks know what they’re doing when it comes to online business but I’ll be honest. I lost interest in the email about 35% of the way into it. It was so tedious that it just wasn’t worth the effort.

Now here’s the amazing part. This was a top level marketer. He was offering free information that most probably would have been helpful. Yet, his boring, tedious, long-winded approach turned me away. I’m even seriously considering unsubscribing from his newsletter. I’ve got several newsletter writers like that.

Apparently they think that since they have all he time in the world to write wads of words into an email I have just as much time to read that massive mess of soap-box diatribe.

In a world where attention span is so short that as a copywriter I have like 3 seconds to capture someone’s attention these marketers are bloating their messages with frilly fluff that is actually shooting themselves in the foot. How is it that people can succeed on the web and then ignore everything they’ve learned? Why do they turn to bad methodology after they’ve succeeded?

I guess it’s just one of those marketing mysteries that we’ll never solve.

Putting out the Spam Fires

January 11th, 2008

Well, I finally broke down and activated SpamAssassin. I had been using filters but the filters got so large they began causing problems with file attachments. Not even the support people can figure that one out but it became a big problem.

Apparently somehow some of my email addresses on some of my sites have been discovered by spammers. Or it may just be that the spammers hit my sites in a rotation of an automated program.

Whatever the case the porn, gambling, and pharmaceutical ads have been jamming my inbox the last couple months.

I began just sorting them out. It took a little extra time but the more I sorted them out the more they increased. I found myself spending a good chunk of my time sorting through all these emails.

Their constant pounding on my brain began taking it’s toll as well. I mean you can only see so many pornographic subject lines before that stuff starts claiming territory in your thoughts. Something HAD to be done.

After arguing with tech support off and on for nearly 3 weeks I finally broke down and installed SpamAssassin. It’s the best tool available to sort through the spam hitting my sites. I’m not real clear on how it works but it shouldn’t block any legitimate email sent to my sites.

If you haven’t activated SpamAssassin on your sites just go to your cPanel and hopefully it’s in the mail section. Be sure to enable SpamAssassin and enable the Spam Box as well.
